The Art of Lighting: How to Warm Up Your Home This Winter

February may be the shortest month of the year, but those drawn-out, dark evenings can make it feel extra-long. While we can’t fast-forward to spring, we can create cozy spaces at home with lighting.

Layer it like a PRO!

Think of lighting like a layered cake. One layer is nice, but the magic happens when you stack it up. Start with ambient lighting, the base layer. This could be a beautiful pendant light or recessed ceiling fixtures. Next, sprinkle in task lighting—perfect for reading nooks, kitchen counters, or your home office. Finally, top it off with accent lighting, like wall sconces or art lights, to highlight your favorite features.

Bulb Basics

Not all light bulbs are created equal. If your home feels more like an interrogation room than a cozy sanctuary, it’s time to rethink your bulbs. Opt for warm white (2700K to 3000K) for living areas, which casts a soft, golden glow. Save cooler-toned bulbs for utility areas like the garage. And don’t forget dimmers. On everything! Dimmers are the unsung heroes of lighting, allowing you to fine-tune brightness and instantly shift the mood.

The Warmth of Candles & LEDs

Finally, nothing says “cozy” quite like the flicker of candlelight. If open flames give you pause, LED alternatives are a safe and an equally charming option. Choose flameless candles to create a warm, inviting ambiance without worrying about wax spills or singed curtains. Bonus: many LED options come with timers, so your home can practically light itself. I have these flameless tapers in my own home and trust me, when they’re lit, you have to look real closely to notice they are not real flames.

Here’s how it works:

If you refer someone who books a full-service project with us, both you and your referral will reap the rewards. Depending on the project, rewards range from $250 to $1,000.

It’s simple:

  • Refer a friend, family member, or colleague who loves great design.

  • Make sure they mention your name when they reach out.

  • Once their project is underway, you’ll both get rewarded!

...Until next month!
